A work in progress by Ineke Vandoorn and Cecilia Moiso

In 2016/2017 Cecilia and Ineke performed their work-in-progress performance 'Circles'. The piece was later developed in a full size production called 'I Can See Myself through Your Eyes' (2018). Circles premiered at the Dutch Dance Days (de Nederlandse Dansdagen) 2016 and was part of the Moving Futures Festival 2017.

  1. a round plane figure whose boundary (the circumference) consists of points equidistant from a fixed point (the centre).
  2. a group of people with a shared profession, interests, or acquaintances.

In Circles we see two female artists trapped in a circular space. This circle is a safe place for play, innocence, research and creativity but simultaneously traps the two in a vulnerable situation. What happens when you step out of the circle and show yourself to the outside world as a performer? How do others gaze upon your work? How do you cope with the constant criticism and scrutiny? Are you your own artistic persona or are you merely a reflection of other people’s opinions?

Circles is a performance on how we cope with our limits as performers and how we can sift them.

In the dome of the Bonnefantenmuseum, ….., they engage, both moving and singing, in a mocking, physically more and more intense dialogue about being an artist and its up and downs. Because of the blaring acoustics their words (that are sometimes our secret thoughts) sometimes are a prayer. ‘I love your show! In her work she goes in search for the place where poetry and reality meet each other. Her work is raw and brutal and its energetic and powerful moves demand everything of her dancers.
